Like others have said, never pay cash. Right now all my tenants pay me electronically through their bank to mine. This makes things very simple for both me and my tenant. There is always a record of them sending it and one of me receiving it. It is tracked by the banks. It is so much easier this way.
I would pay the $34 to avoid problems. I would also write your landlord explaining what happened. It may turn up and then he can just credit it for you next month.

I would just pay it but get a money order and I wouldnt put it in his box I would give it 2 him in person. You could even take a pic of it on your cell 4 a just in case proof. He could even go through eviction process if you dont pay it and im sure you dont want 2 get evicted 4 34 dollars. I know its unfair 2 have 2 pay something twice after you know you paid it but if hes arguing he didnt get it just pay it so you wont have any type of conflict or problems. Just do it by money orders from now on and keep all reciepts. Good luck

with a small amount like that ... he could be trying to scam you in hopes that you will say.. "its only 34 dollars" .."i'll just pay it again"

so..yea i would be careful of doing that again.. unfortunately it is his word against yours now which means you lose out

so from now on make sure it is in a check form or certified money order...etc.. something he would have to cash which would leave a trail if he said he didnt get it ..you would know he had cashed it

or.. if your going to pay any of it in cash...make sure to hand it directly to the landlord and get a receipt right away

Always pay with a check or certified funds (with a copy for your records) so that you have a record of payment. Just give him another $34, it's a good lesson, never pay in cash.

I would just pay it -- you have no proof. Never pay in cash -- you cannot trace cash.

It is not goo business sense to ever pay anything in cash unless you are able to get an immediate receipt from the person you gave the cash. Let this be a learning experience for you and move on.

The ideal way to pay your rent is with a check from your on personal bank account. Your bank will send you the copies of the cashed check, or bank statements indicating when the checks were cased and the back will have the institution that they sent the funds to as well as the date this occurred.

Money orders might be ok, however, they are not traceable. Even though you might prove that you purchased the money orders, you can not prove who cashed the money orders. Then there have been many money order fraud cases that took many months to get into courts and solve.

About the $34.00, you can fight it, however, your chance of coming out on top is not all that good. You would be arguing your point and the landlord would be arguing his point that he never got the cash, even if there is no obvious break in of the mail box. Your argument might be that if the landlord did not get the cash then someone else must have a key. No win for ya.

I hope this has been of some benefit to you, good luck.

Just have sufficient postage. And the last line, below the city-and-state should say USA. Mail it anywhere.

You can probably find the postage amount on-line.
